What Happened to THAI 5 Largo?

Posted: Tuesday, Nov 16, 2021

Dear Customers,

The TL,DR version is that we're being forced to close while we look around for another location.

2021 has really been a rough year trying to establish a restaurant in Largo!  After making plans in April to open at 6721 Ulmerton Road, for 4 months the Pinellas County government kept us tied up with inspections, fees, and zoning issues (while paying rent).  The contention was our small food trailer, which we just wanted to use as an adjuct kitchen.  Finally, in August, the county bestowed their blessing and allowed us to open our restaurant.  In the first 3 months of opening we had such amazing success!  SO many new customers told their family, friends, neighbors and co-workers about us, while leaving 5-star reviews on Google, Yelp, Facebook, and other social media platforms. Thank you, thank you!  We are very humbled and blessed to have made so many new friends throughout Largo!

Well . . . now we have another problem with the county.  After a neighbor called to complain, a county official informed us that our food trailer "must be at least 5 feet away from the building in order to comply with fire regulations" -- something that was never mentioned to us during inspections.  The big issue, however, is that there is NO place on the property to put a small food trailer "5 feet away away from the building" AND still comply with the county's other restrictions.  So basically it's a catch 22 -- one that county inspectors really should have been able to inform us about prior to committing 8 months of building rent plus a $3k sign.  (Just saying.)

BOTTOM LINE:  For the time being the county government is forcing us to close while we look for another location.  If you know of anyone who owns a small restaurant space on Ulmerton Road, have them email us at thai5fastfood@gmail.com and maybe we can make something happen!   When we do find a new location for Thai 5 Largo, we'll post an update on our website and social media platforms.  Until then keep us in your minds and hearts.  Happy Thanksgiving.  Eat well & stay safe.

Blessings,

Chris
